Part of the municipality of Loiano

For a long time it was believed that the name of the hamlet derived from the presence of cattle (from the Latin late bovinus, derivation of bos, that is "bove") or from the characteristic of the soil (from the Latin adjective bibulum which means "thirsty" or "absorbent ").

Then came the hypothesis that it is a Roman predial toponym deriving from the noble Vibullius, the name of the character of Latin origins who owned the farm around which the inhabited center developed.
